| PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENT FOR REFERRAL INTO THE TALENTED ART PROGRAM | ||
|
A portfolio is one requirement for screening for the Talented Visual Art Program. Three of the five following exercises are required as part of the portfolio (except for the 7th -12th grade level). These exercises are to be done in black and white with pencil only. |

* Still Life Drawing Draw a real life picture of a pair of shoes. Look at the shoes and draw what you see - not what you think you see.
* Portrait Drawing Draw a real life picture of yourself by looking into a mirror. Draw yourself from the shoulders p to the top of your head Remember to include eyes, nose, ears, mouth, hair and your neck.
* House Drawing Draw a picture of a house (it does not have to be your house). Show the two sides of the house that you see. Show as much detail as possible.
* Landscape Drawing Go outside and draw what you see in your neighborhood, like your backyard, a park, the street you live on, etc. Include things like trees, bushes, fences, cars, houses, etc.
* Narrative Drawing You and your friends are walking on a path through the woods. You see animals, birds, plants, trees, and a pond. All of a sudden something scares you! Draw this.
*** IN ADDITION TO 3 OF THE 5 EXERCISES ABOVE, THE STUDENT SHOULD ADD 5 OTHER PIECES OF THEIR OWN ARTWORK IN THE PORTFOLIO.

* FOR GRADES 7-12 ALL OF THESE EXERCISES MUST BE COMPLETED!
* Still Life Drawing - Object Draw a real life picture of a pair of shoes. Use one light source (lamp or window) to show value (dark/light)
* Still Life Drawing - Set Up Set up 2-5 household objects of different sizes, shapes, and textures and draw the entire set up.
* Still Life Drawing - Nature Object Draw on single object from nature close up (such as a pinecone, seashell, plant, etc.)
* Hand Drawing Draw your hand holding an object. Use unique perspective, use details, use on light source. (No cartooning)
* Portrait Drawing Draw a real life picture of yourself by looking into a mirror. Draw yourself from he shoulders up to the top of your head. Use one light source and include as much detail as possible.
* Perspective Drawing Go outside and draw a house or building or group of buildings. Be sure to draw two sides of the building that you see.
* Landscape Drawing Go outside and draw a scene from your neighborhood, in nature at the bayou...or somewhere outside. Include trees, bushes, fences, etc. Show detail.
* Human Body Drawing Draw the human body in an interesting position using a single light source. Show detail.
*** IN ADDITION TO THESE 8 EXERCISES ABOVE, THE STUDENT SHOULD ADD 5 OTHER PIECES OF THEIR OWN ARTWORK IN THE PORTFOLIO. |
